Union Jobs and Other Alternatives

Trying to figure out how to become an electrician apprentice? Follow any of the steps below and you should be on your way to becoming one.

The typical electrician apprentice program is five years. Except for the military, the apprentice normally work in the morning (paid employment)and attend classes during the evening.

As an electrician apprentice, you will work directly under the supervision of a qualified journeyman electrician.

You will be installing, maintaining a variety of approved wiring methods for distribution of electrical systems such as heat, lighting, power, radio and signaling utilization systems.

Your work could be in existing or new residential, commercial or industrial buildings.

It could also involve street and highway lighting, traffic signals and outdoor above and below installations.

As an apprentice, you are required to work in cramp area. Lots of climbing, crouching, and heavy lifting might be involved.

Typical book costs are about $450 for the first year and the tool costs are approximately $ 500.

You should visit the Homepage if you need to find out the minimum requirements for an apprentice. I want to add that you MUST have a valid drivers license at the time of indenture.

Just a reminder, pre-algebra does not meet the requirement. You also must provide official transcrift to meet the requirements.

Non-English diplomas and/or transcripts must be translated and notorized with the embossed notary seal.

If accepted in the program, you will be required to take a pre-employment drug test.

You will be scheduled to take (qualifying exam) a written test in reading comprehension and algebra.

Once you pass the qualifying exam, you will be scheduled for an oral interview by the committee. They will ask questions that will help them determine your ability to become an apprentice electrician.

Your name will then be place on the eligibility list for apprenticeship. Women and minorities are encourage to apply.
