Hawaii programs has similar apprenticeship requirements with other states.
Hawaii has two versions. The Union "wireperson" electrician and the non-union electrician side.
Hawaii programs - Union version:
Wirepersons install conduit, electrical wiring, fixtures
and electrical apparatus in buildings and in industrial settings.
Major duties include: planning/initiating projects; establishing
temporary power; establishing grounding systems; installing
electrical service; establishing power distribution within a project; planning and installing raceway systems.
Installing new and repairing old wiring; providing power and
controls to motors, HVAC, and other equipment.
Installing receptacles, lighting systems, and fixtures;
troubleshooting and repairing electrical systems; installing and repairing traffic signals, outdoor lighting and outdoor power feeders; installing fire alarm systems.
Minimum requirements:
Age 18+ (with verification documents)
High School Diploma/GED
Pass 1 year HS Algebra (not Pre-Algebra)
Transcript of HS or post HS courses
Pass industry aptitude test to qualify for
oral interview
Substance abuse test before indenturing

Hawaii programs - Non-Union version
Electricians layout, install, repair, and test electrical systems for heat, light, power, air conditioning, and
refrigeration components.
They install electrical machinery, controls, and electronic,
signal and communication equipment. They follow blueprints. They measure, cut assemble and install electrical conduits, and pull electrical wires and make the connections. They test circuits for continuity and grounding.
Electricians use screwdrivers, pliers, and other hand tools, pipe
threaders, conduit benders, and test meters and power tools.
Apprenticeship Program requires satisfaction completion of 10,000
hours of work and industry related study.
Minimum requirements:
High School Graduate or GED
1 year HS Algebra (not PreAlgebra)
Transcript of HS courses or post HS trade courses
Valid Driver’s License
Pass industry & color code vision tests
US Citizen to go on Military Bases
Work for member company 6+wks
Legally able to work under current immigration laws
