Inside Wireman
Inside Wireman install conduit, electrical wiring, fixtures, and electrical apparatus inside commercial buildings and in a multitude of industrial settings. The joint program between IBEW, NJATC and NECA Created the most effective way to train qualified workers as well as create a great program such as this. This is a five year program consisting of a minimum of 8,000 hours of on-the-job training (OJT) and 1,000 hours of classroom work. The American Council on Education (ACE) will recommend as many as 58 credits toward an associate’s degree to successful graduates of this program. Typical duties of Inside Wiremen include: Planning and Initiating ProjectsEstablishing Temporary Power during ConstructionEstablishing Grounding SystemsInstalling Service to Buildings and Other Structures Establishing Power Distribution within a ProjectPlanning and Installing Raceway SystemsInstalling New Wiring and Repairing Old WiringProviding Power and Controls to Motors, HVAC, and OtherEquipment. Installing Receptacles, Lighting Systems, and Fixtures.Troubleshooting and Repairing Electrical Systems. Installing and Repairing Traffic Signals, Outdoor Lighting and Outdoor Power Feeders.Installing Fire Alarm Systems. In performing these duties, Inside Wiremen must usemany different kinds of tools, ranging from simple one and two-hand tools (such as pliers, screwdrivers, and cable-cutters) to power assisted tools like electric drills and cable pullers.They occasionally operate heavy equipment such as trenches and aerial lifts.
