Vermont Electrician Apprenticeship
Vermont Electrician Apprenticeship is an employer-sponsored training program that includes both supervised work experience and related instruction. How it operates is employers take part in Registered Apprenticeship by "sponsoring" individuals as apprentices. What the employer does is set a progressive wage scale, and agrees to provide supervised OJT, and helps financially support the related instruction component of the program. Apprenticeship related instructions could be delivered in a number of formats. In electrical, most apprentices attend classes through Vermont Technical College in a number of sites around the state. In other occupations, students may attend classes delivered by the company. For the most part, Union sponsors provide related instruction through classes at union training centers. The good part about this, If you are already employed in the electrical trade and wish to become an apprentice, have your employer contact the Apprenticeship office in Montpelier at 828-4356. An Apprenticeship Field Representative is going to be asked to create an on-site visit to help develop this program. If you are not employed, you can still find an employer sponsor in a variety of ways. You can apply straight to employers who employ workers in the field that you have an interest. For instance, if you're looking for a plumbing apprenticeship, you can apply for work at the local plumbing companies. You may even look for apprenticeship opportunities through VT Job Link. This website also includes a listing of apprenticeship sponsors. If you're thinking about taking electrical classes, don't hesitate to contact Sherrie Brewster at 828-4356. Classes begin in September each year and are generally located in Barre, Hartford, Rutland, Springfield and Essex Junction. Selected classes are also offered in Newport and in St. Johnsbury, depending upon need.
